Why led driver fails?

In recent years, led lights have developed rapidly and gradually replaced traditional fluorescent lamps and incandescent lamps, and led driver has been paid attention to as a key part of led lights. The quality of the led driver directly affects the reliability and stability of the overall lighting. In the process of use, there will be problems with the failure of the led driver, and what are the reasons for the failure of the led driver?
        1) Power margin and derating requirements are not considered: In general, the power of led driver refers to the data measured in a fixed environment and a fixed voltage. Different customers have different application for led drivers. Most led driver suppliers will provide power derating curves in their specifications, as shown in the figure below:

derating-curve

Figure 1 is the derating curve of load VS ambient temperature at 220V input. When the ambient temperature is lower than 30℃, the led driver can reach 100% full load. When the ambient temperature varies between 30℃ and 60℃, the load of the led driver also changes in temperature. When the ambient temperature is 60℃, the load of the led driver is 60℃.
Figure 2 is the derating curve of load VS input voltage. When the input voltage is less than 200VAC, the output load of the led driver is required to decrease linearly with the decrease of the input voltage. When the input voltage is 200VAC, the led driver load is allowed to be 100% full load. If the output power is constant, the input current will rise, causing the input loss to increase, the efficiency decreases, and the temperature of the parts increases. When selecting a led driver, the selection should be considered according to the actual ambient temperature and input voltage, and the margin should be appropriately set.
        2) The following frequently occurring situations can cause the led driver to be damaged:
When wiring, read the manual carefully to distinguish between the AC end and the DC end.
① Connecting AC to DC output of led driver will cause the led driver to fail.
② When installing a DC to DC led driver power supply, the AC terminal is directly connected to the input or output of the DC/DC driver power supply, resulting in the failure of the led driver. When connecting to DC to DC type, it is necessary to convert AC to DC before connecting to DC/DC led driver input or output, as shown in the figure.
③ The phase wire is connected to the ground wire, resulting in no output from the led driver.

        3) The grid voltage exceeds the power load: when the same transformer grid branch wiring is too long and there are large power equipment in the branch, when the large equipment starts and stops, the grid voltage will fluctuate violently. and even lead to grid instability, The led driver may be damaged when the grid transient voltage exceeds 310Vac. There fore, special attention should be paid to the large electric machinery on the street lighting branch power grid. It is best to monitor the fluctuation range of the power grid, or to supply power from a separate power grid transformer.
To sum up, there are some reasons for the failure of led driver. For more information, please contact our team, we also have experienced engineers to answer your questions.
