Choose the right LED driver

LED lighting replaces traditional lighting, which brings great convenience to our life.
Compared to halogen or incandescent lights, LED lights have long life, it can save much energy and make us a colorful life.

But did you know? LED driver is one of the most important components.Many retrofit LED lights(like most LED bulbs,LED tube)have driver built in to make your transition from traditional lighting to LED lighting much easier.

Other types of LED lights,such as LED strip lights,require an external LED driver.Because,unlike traditional lighting such as incandescent or halogen lights, LED lights operate on lower and more precise voltages such as 12 volts or 24 volts.They use on DC,rather then AC.

There are two main types of LED drivers...

1.Constant voltage LED drivers which convert the input mains voltage of 100/220 volts AC into a lower DC voltage, such as 12 volts or 24 volts. Constant voltage LED drivers common use for powering LED strips or other low powered LED lighting setups.constant voltage driver output voltage is always same and doesn’t fluctuate.We often call this LED power supply.
2.Constant current LED drivers also convert 100/220 volts AC into lower DC voltages,they maintain a constant current output.This ensures that the sensitive LED chip achieves full brightness and preventing it from being overpowered, which would damage the chip.Constant current LED drivers are usually required for higher performance LED lighting setups such as street lamp & underground lights.

As a LED driver manufacturer, here are four common rules we summary for you when choosing the products:
Firstly,you need to know if your LED lights require a constant voltage or constant current voltage.If there is only LED chips wired in series and in parallel on the PCB board,then you need a constant current LED driver.If there are resistors wired in a series LED chips like LED strip lights...you will require a constant voltage LED driver.
Secondly,make sure the Current value on your LED light matches your LED driver.Usually，we set the current of driver below 75% of the max current of lights ,According to the working life and light decay of the lights,the most common using current are 350mA,700mA, 900mA,1050mA and 1500mA . We can use dimmable constant current drivers to adjust the brightness of lights, such as triac dimmable drivers, 0-10v dimmable drivers., PWM dimmable drivers., WIFI, Bluetooth and Dali dimmable drivers.
If you assure that you require a constant voltage LED driver,you can skip this step to step three. As same there are dimmable constant voltage drivers available for adjusting the brightness, like triac dimmable drivers, 0-10v dimmable drivers., PWM dimmable drivers., WIFI, Bluetooth and Dali dimmable drivers.
Thirdly,make sure the wattage of the LED driver higher than the total power.The means if you require 36 watt LED lights,the LED driver you require will be 36 watts or higher.
Finally, make sure the output voltage of your LED driver is compatible with the input voltage of your LED light.Some constant current LED drivers have a very wide output voltage .meaning they are more universal and compatible with more LED lights.However,there are many constant current LED driver that output a very specific voltage,which may not be compatible with you LED lights.And if the incorrect voltage is used...it can cause damage to them.It’s very important that you check.
